I do not like the crowd, nor the big events, let alone when the spotlight's on me. And most of all, I'm not sure I want to grow old. So, I decided to lay low and not remind anyone that the date was approaching. It must have worked because only a few close friends sent me their wishes today! I had Hardly time to play with my accessories and take some pictures of my new look, when someone rang at the door. My heart skips a beat. No, I'm not expecting anyone... and especially not today. Crammed up in Dafne's little car, we laugh as we sing horribly false hits that pass on her dislocated radio, as she takes us out of town. The area we live in is particularly beautiful, full of trees, green even in summer, and lots of fantastic stories are told about it. Not surprisingly, the forests around our city are old and preserved, full of wild animals and hundred-year-old trees, which gives them a mysterious side... And frankly, I do not know anyone in the region who remained insensitive. After having parked her car on the empty lot at the end of the dirt road, we discover the edge of a majestic wood, its immense trees inviting you to enter, the fresh smell of humus and that golden light that filters through the sheets. It is said that the forest is inhabited by magical creatures, the spirits of nature, and when I was little, I believed they were true. Step 4: At the foot of my tree

We left the car on the ground which serves as a parking lot, and we entered the wood. The girls know how much I love this place, so for my birthday, they offer me a festive picnic in a clearing at the edge of a stream! It makes me so happy, especially since I had not returned since my childhood, and yet I live next door. They have planned everything: sandwiches, drinks, and even a homemade cake... I am moved and very happy to share this simple meal with them, in this beautiful setting. Audrey then distributes the badminton rackets, and we run into a clumsy game among the ferns and roots. Bursting with laughter, we spend more time chasing after the wheel than sending it back... Lying on the tablecloths, we catch our breath, admiring the inaccessible canopy above our heads, the fresh wind that caresses our faces, the song of the birds and the water that lulls us. And it is inevitable, I close my eyes and find myself immediately in childhood. I dream of myself as a prowler of the woods, protector of the forest and of all its creatures... and instinctively finds the path that leads to the tree-king, the oldest and largest, located in the center of the forest. I have nevertheless sought it so many times, without ever finding it... but it is so easy in dreams!

Step 5: The Wizard

Carried by my imagination, my spirit is flying. I climb along the tree, climbing the stairs formed by giant mushrooms and bridges of vines, to the home of the Magician built inside the tree. I remember that I often visited him when I was little, I loved his house with exotic furniture and scents of unknown spices. I was even a little in love with him, I think! Nothing has changed since my childhood. The rays of the sun always strike the suspended mobiles, which send back their colored reflections in all directions, and the wind plays gently in the chimes. Through the window, I see the Magician's room, his library, and him, plunged in his reading. It is still as beautiful, so mysterious! He looks up from his book and our eyes meet. It seems to me he winks at me, and I send him a salute with my fingertips. But I must continue my ascent. I am awaited!

Step 6: The fairies' Lake

I hear their light laughter, the whirring of their wings and the song of the water before I even see them. The air is damp, loaded with floral fragrances, curtains of plants brush my face and a cloud of colorful insects are busy around me as if they were welcoming me. This is the fairy lake here, my favorite place when I was little! So many colors and friends to play, and then I have always had tenderness for this immense face frozen in the wood, still finding to it today an air of resemblance to my missing mother. The fairies greet me with their crystalline voices and invite me to join their games. I never went further when I was little, but today, for the first time, I raise my head to the top of the tree I have never seen. It's so big that I cannot even see it, only guess... What is up there? I always wondered. But suddenly, doubt overwhelmed me, and the fantastic world of the tree blurs under my eyes. Should I go on? Would it not be dangerous? Wouldn't it be better to stop there and wake up to rejoin my friends?

Step 7A (left): the Tree-heart

Beneath my feet, I no longer see the ground, nothing but an infinite emerald sea, agitated by the wind. An intuition tells me that in the middle of the forest there is the oldest and largest tree-heart, and that in its inaccessible branches there was a secret. Is it because it's my birthday? Today, I feel I am allowed to discover it. For the first time, I borrow the nacelle that carries me towards the canopy. I discover an incredible hanging village, with shades of colorful crystal, populated by fantastic creatures. In the depths of me, I'm not surprised, just amazed. The child who is still in me always knew that the tales were true! A young woman approaches, she is a Keeper of the tree. She takes me by the hand and pulls me inside the central house, and for a moment I bathe in a soft glow... I have before my eyes the beating heart of the tree, the source of life, and I feel so small beside him, mute before the honor that was bestowed to me in order to be able to contemplate it. The Guardian touches my cheek, she looks at me tenderly, and in her eyes, I guess like a family resemblance. I lower my eyes on my hands, which I discover identical to hers, and I feel tears of joy pear in the corner of my eyes. I am back home...

I open my eyes to the sky, which has gently begun to darken. Leaves in the hair, we gather our belongings to go home. As we leave the clearing, I see the flattened grass where we have been playing, and I smile. I'll be back! We take the road again, but Dafne does not take us back to town: head to the restaurant of the Fairy caves! What? Really ? It's an incredible gift, I always wanted to go, but it seemed so out of reach, too luxurious for me. If I'm with girls, I'm ready to go anywhere! Alone the exterior keeps its promises, we have a fantastic view of the lake and the sky full of stars! The restaurant does not bear its name by accident, it was really built in a cave, and I feel surrounded by my good fairies. I am all the more anxious to discover the inside, I can never thank enough my friends... I am the first to enter, and surprise! My family is here too! But then, they were all in cahoots? I am moved by all this, my cheeks are burning while my loved ones come to hold me in their arms and a gorgeous singer of cabaret intones a "Happy birthday" capella, soon followed by the whole assembly. The evening is happening so fast, a parade of delicious food and gifts sumptuous in a fantastic setting... I think this is the most beautiful birthday of my life!
