Elric was sitting at the kitchen counter, doing his homework while I was attempting to make lunch. Zoye was clutching her hair in despair, because I was doing everything wrong.

"Mum, stop infuriating Aunt Zo, or she might explode in a few minutes." Elric scolded me when I laughed at her expression.

"Hey, everybody knows I'm not the world's best cook!" I narrowed my eyes at him defensively.

"We are making sandwiches! That' hardly cooking!" Zo yelled at me, exasperated. I humphed, and got distracted when I noticed something odd happening outside. There were heads of girls peering from the shrubs lining the house.

"What are floating heads doing staring at Elric?" I wondered aloud.

"Just some dumb club they made. Elric Nocturne Is Ours." He groaned.

I raised my eyebrows. "Oh ho ho ho. My son is a player. You make me proud." I say to him, patting him on the back.

"Niice. I never thought you had it in you Elric." Zoye said grinning proudly.

"What? No! I don't want to be one!" Elric exclaimed, cringing away.

"WHAT?!" I was shocked, to say the least. "Why in the world wouldn't you want to go about breaking hearts and being a man?!"

"Mum! I want a stable relationship kind of girl! Not them!" He looked disgusted.

"So no one night stands or strip clubs?" Zoye asked, a bit amused.

"What? Absolutely not!" He blushed and looked away, embarrassed.

"So no sugar rushes either?" I asked him sadly.

"Of course mum, I'll always go on sugar highs with you." He said smiling a bit.

"Awe you're still my baby." I went to give him a hug but he had already gone back to studying. But I hugged him anyway.

"Okay just promise me, promise me that you won't get married too fast. OK?" I demanded him, frowning.

He sighed. "K."

"Why can't you be more sociable than staying home studying all day. I mean, if you want to find a girl, you might go and visit a few.. clubs here and there!"

He blushed again and said, "I'm fine the way I am! I'll go out when I want to, and find the girl." He replied stubbornly.

"Darling it's not good to not at least date a few girls. At once." Zoye said.

"I totally agree." I high-fived Zoye while Elric just groaned and thumped his head on to the counter in defeat.

"OH MY GOD HE'S SO HOT!" We heard a girl squeal from outside.

"See what I mean?" I said to him, my laughter evident in my tone.

"Seriously though, he has got to get a girlfriend!" Zoye muttered, looking outside. The girls were squealing and trying to get a good look at him. I sighed.
"Yea."

"One way for him to be late for his own birthday party." Shade said after some time. I smirked.
"Oh please. We came just in time." I looked around and found Elric laughing with Eva and Cathy. I smiled as he caught me staring at him, and he smiled back. He excused himself from them and made his way over to us. Shade and I stepped a little away from each other as he joined us.
"Elric." Shade smiled at his son. Elric didn't smile back.
"What are you doing here?" Elric demanded, much to both of our surprise.
"Zoye invited me." Shade said after a moment of stunned silence.
"And you thought that after years of abandoning us, we would welcome you with open arms?"
There was underlined hurt in his angrily spoken words. The separation wasn't easy on him either, and he had been bottling that pent up emotion in himself that he had even fooled me into believing that he was okay.

Shade remained silent, remorse etched on his face. "I cannot even begin to describe how much I wanted to come back, but I couldn't let myself give in. Yes, I'm a coward, And there's no one in the world that hates me more than I hate myself for leaving."

"That's your explanation?" Elric scoffed. By now everyone was looking at us.
"Elric.." I tried to say not to do this right now, but he didn't listen.
"You cannot take him back. Not unless he gives a good, solid explanation." And with that, he marched out of the ballroom, Eva trailing behind him.

Shade didn't look at me as I tried to apologize for him, so I didn't bother.
"I need some air." He shortly stated and walked out.

Sigh. Like father, like son.

"Elric Nocturne! You listen to me right now!" I yelled as he still didn't answer after my fifth call.

"How could you dance with him when he had given nothing but bull crap to you?" He rounded on me, furious, his eyes glistening in tears. I had asked Eva to leave us alone for me to talk to him about it.

"Because I love him! And I always will." I replied to him, tears streaming down my face.

"Mum. He left us. He chose the rogues over his own family. He doesn't deserve any of that." His tone was spiteful, and shocking.

"Take. That. Back." I said each word separately, slowly.

"He has to prove that he does deserve it, and until then I'm not taking any of that back." He sat down on the ground and leaned back, staring at the sky.
I sighed and sat down next to him.

"Look, Elric. Yes, he did leave us. Yes he did choose the rogues over us. And yes he was a total coward when it came to handling a family of his own, but he's here now."

He looked at me. "And what gives you any guarantees that he is here to stay?" He said it quietly.

"I know this time." I was being serious. I didn't need Shade to prove himself to me, because I knew the minute I saw him here that he had every intention of coming back to his family.

"But mum, are you sure?" He asked me like a boy who needed assurance that his daddy would be there for him. He was asking for a promise.

"Yes. Yes I'm sure."

Yup.

I guessed that much :(

I stepped into the house with bags…lots of them…I really should stop going downtown.

I saw Aury sitting in the livingroom playing some shooter on his playstation. Seriously, how can he still like shooting zombies when we do that on a daily basis, I don’t know.

“Hi Aury. How was school?”

He mumbled something like, “Good...Everything’s good, mom….Die, you stupid zombie.”

“Where’s Eva?” I asked examining him.

“…um…maybe…wait no no no,” He mumbled as he stared at the game.

I smirked and walked and stood between him and the TV.

“Mom... Nooooo. I’m dying here,” And he did.  I heard the game over theme. Yeah I knew it. Matt and I play the game sometimes…We call it ‘practice’. “Oh Dam…” I gave him a look. He quickly put on a smile, “Damien…Damien and Leo…We should meet them more often…I love you mommy.” He got up and hugged me. I smiled a bit, “Study…now.”

He sighed and mumbled as he walked upstairs, “Why doesn’t some evil downworlder attack when you need him? Or her…I’m not picky.”

I walked upstairs and knocked on Eva’s room…I heard a quiet ‘Come in’.

I went inside to see her face buried in the pillows.

“I’m guessing first day at high school didn’t go all so well?”

She turned so her face was facing up now, “No…It was horrible.”

I sat down next to her and smiled a bit, “You knew it wasn’t going to be so easy.”

“I know…But…argh.” She said as she covered her face with her hands.

“Wanna tell me what happened?”

“That’s what I’d like to know, too.” Matt was standing by the door frame looking at us. He came and sat on the bed with us, “Someone I need to kill?” He asked casually.

Eva smiled a bit, “I don’t think killing them would help much…There’s this group of girls at school…popular ones. They … made fun of me…They said I was a nerd and things like that. They even brought some boys to … try to put gum in my hair.”

Matt pushed a lock of her hair off of her face, “They’re immature, Eva…I think they’re even jealous.”

“Jealous?”

I nodded, “You’re beautiful and they felt threatened…Don’t give them a second thought. Besides, you have Elric in the same school right?”

She sighed, “We don’t have any classes together.”

“But he’s going to be there…And you know he’ll help you out.”

She thought for a while and asked sheepishly, “You won’t accept me wanting to be homeschooled again, right?”

Matt smiled at her, “No…we won’t…You need the experience.”

She pouted a bit and said, “You know? The only good thing that happened today was I saw Elric’s fan girls…Boy did he have to run.”

I chuckled. We then heard Aury calling from downstairs, “EVAAAAAAAAAAAA! ELRIC IS HERE!!!!!!!!!”

Her face paled as she whispered to us, “Aury just announced that to the world. His fangirls are going to come over now. We need to move...quick.” She kissed us quickly and ran downstairs. We heard Elric yelling at Aury, “I snuck all the way from my house and now you just made them find me. Aury, I’m going to kill you.”

LOL I love the last part! Elric is the best :)
