PHOTOBUCKET changes

I've noticed lately that there were beginning to be more ads popping up on PHOTOBUCKET.  Then this week they came out with news that you could pay a certain amount per month to get rid of the ads, but you could still use their FREE account uploading. Apparently, though, if you have a FREE account you will not be able to link 3rd party images, whatever that is according to them.  Here's some info on that:

Visiting : There is no cost to visit the Site or to register as a Member.

Free account : Each individual Member gets one free account that provides 2 GB of free storage or space available for your original photo files, or videos under 10min. The free account does not allow any image linking or 3rd party image hosting. If a free account Member exceeds their Content Limit, their account will be immediately suspended and they will need to become a “Paying Member” (defined below) in order to continue accessing their account. You can upgrade to a Plus account at any time.
Ad-free Account : The Ad-free Account offers Members the ability to use the Site without seeing any third party banner advertisements when logged into your Ad-free Account (note, viewers of your images within Photobucket will see ads unless they, too, have Plus accounts and you will continue to see Photobucket offers and announcements). This account level is available for $2.49 / month, payable by the Member on a monthly recurring basis.
Plus Account : The Plus Account offers several paid options that may give the Paying Member more storage, bandwidth, 3rd party image hosting, image linking and/or other services as outlined below. Once and during such period of time in which you subscribe to and pay for a Plus Account, we will consider you a "Paying Member." Please note that all Plus Account sub ions are billed annually at the commencement of the service. Photobucket may also offer a monthly billing option for its Plus Accounts (see terms and restrictions, below).

I am frustrated, to say the least

Until I can figure this out, if you have received an image from me and you never had saved it to your computer and hosted it yourself... your image from me will be like my sig is here.

Re: PHOTOBUCKET changes

*bangs her head on the desk*

I'm going to try the site tinypic and see how that goes.  Photobucket says I have 1010 images hosted!  *bangs her head on her desk again*

If you want to upgrade so you can continue to view your PHOTOBUCKET images on other pages... other than photobucket, it will only cost you a mere 399.99 per year!!!

*What is 3rd Party Hosting?

Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website. For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum, Etsy, eBay auction listings, a blog, etc. is definitively 3rd party hosting.

Re: PHOTOBUCKET changes

I actually moved to imgur three weeks ago. I didn't know this was going to happen though. Guess I had a feeling about it lol

Anyway they kinda destroyed all the images data bases. Now I have to save all the stuff and move everything to imgur. What disturbs me the most is the "broken" ugly square image which appears. I have sooo many pictures/ graphics posted to different forums/ sites honte

Re: PHOTOBUCKET changes

Yeah in general stay away from photobucket. It's been very unstable and now this is even worse. I've been using noelshack actually. It was recommended to me by the French Mods and Gazette, sooo ... I'm assuming they've been using it for a while.

Re: PHOTOBUCKET changes

I noticed that the other day. I need to download all my images and get them off of photobucket. sad

I am sure with them doing this they just lost the last little bit of customers they did have.

Yeah, I've been using imgur for several years now. I started with photobucket as well but I constantly had some weird problems with that website, so I pretty quickly moved to imgur. It's been fine, so far.

That sounds like the one for me.  I had uploaded about 15 to tinypic, just enough to get my page look... kinda back. I noticed with tinypic, there were pop-up ads there like photobucket was and massively now. So far, just uploaded one with imgur but it seems really fast, and all the other adjectives that I can't think of right now.

Thanks for suggesting that everyone!

Re: PHOTOBUCKET changes

I've been wanting to find another place to host my pictures since the site I use (Sanrio Town) is constantly bugging on me. I remembered Imgur being mentioned here, but then I read this from their website about what NOT to do:

Also, don't use Imgur to host image libraries you link to from elsewhere, content for your website, advertising, avatars, or anything else that turns us into your content delivery network. If you do – and we will be the judge... we will ban you along with the site you're hotlinking from, delete all your images, report you to the authorities if necessary, and prevent you from viewing any images hosted on Imgur.com. We mean it.

Wouldn't this mean I can't host my pictures here since I'd be using them elsewhere?

Re: PHOTOBUCKET changes

Imgur is fine if you are using photos to "share" with other people. But using them as a link for a header, or signature is not.

I use imgur a lot more, but for those with a gmail, google photos isn't that bad. You just can't get a good link to go with it. Especially for OMD, you need the image's extension.

If it gives you problems, just add ".jpg" to the end of the url. If that doesn't work, fall to "-tmp.jpg" which will work regardless of the image's original extension.

Here's what the original link looks like:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/80490E6F6Q3nHoZQCGpuCMUrkROhAb783xfnStWmasxCv-TQBYt2XrckslzTsXrB9AVANdzark8BVQn8NhWuCTOLuqm4p6iADzSVsfpnx5FW17Z6G0msM0hlpZoNhJUkej3WqyfQ3XWr-eCMt8ejczRQBhDlLRnG83emxRxmkL0WeBeWit1L6VaUEVIf58yuUSxGF7MPJ52b7Zr1rGDtZ52EOM2OIS6MZcnSbe-q3fFOSAclRieLuCVarEdVM7n6A14Qf4HMx3wK4sm6466ixlRTSXobU2Nzexsi-uEwczbIqWTK7Dw1SSAGvc_bRygK9dhM7l-CG-SczEKSGjt957yalRm-PBxU0OhAYDDk51wVv5c5QxS6QG0VBdDPB5xRrBeiv1QgbHepnZ1bbvG98VrZnNkcEEs0aBD6SeNIuuz80Ez2X0jibhw8OpnE7JypY26L4Vu95kSsOJs28MeauF8-GyOI4eYiXR50CCNGINpjUByJT-FG3ke3cg9XfqUU1r7lOpkNMKoG2ElpeIOnpTEcM1Llqz4vFwOH3GQsSXTdMgEnIkMyH_G0OmAf0JlDmKvxtkLQLFOminDnactmyG2K4p1UAEghhcFJXoQ=s300-no

Here's what it looks like with "-tmp.jpg" since this is a .png file:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/80490E6F6Q3nHoZQCGpuCMUrkROhAb783xfnStWmasxCv-TQBYt2XrckslzTsXrB9AVANdzark8BVQn8NhWuCTOLuqm4p6iADzSVsfpnx5FW17Z6G0msM0hlpZoNhJUkej3WqyfQ3XWr-eCMt8ejczRQBhDlLRnG83emxRxmkL0WeBeWit1L6VaUEVIf58yuUSxGF7MPJ52b7Zr1rGDtZ52EOM2OIS6MZcnSbe-q3fFOSAclRieLuCVarEdVM7n6A14Qf4HMx3wK4sm6466ixlRTSXobU2Nzexsi-uEwczbIqWTK7Dw1SSAGvc_bRygK9dhM7l-CG-SczEKSGjt957yalRm-PBxU0OhAYDDk51wVv5c5QxS6QG0VBdDPB5xRrBeiv1QgbHepnZ1bbvG98VrZnNkcEEs0aBD6SeNIuuz80Ez2X0jibhw8OpnE7JypY26L4Vu95kSsOJs28MeauF8-GyOI4eYiXR50CCNGINpjUByJT-FG3ke3cg9XfqUU1r7lOpkNMKoG2ElpeIOnpTEcM1Llqz4vFwOH3GQsSXTdMgEnIkMyH_G0OmAf0JlDmKvxtkLQLFOminDnactmyG2K4p1UAEghhcFJXoQ=s300-no-tmp.jpg

Here's what the pic looks like:
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/80490E6F6Q3nHoZQCGpuCMUrkROhAb783xfnStWmasxCv-TQBYt2XrckslzTsXrB9AVANdzark8BVQn8NhWuCTOLuqm4p6iADzSVsfpnx5FW17Z6G0msM0hlpZoNhJUkej3WqyfQ3XWr-eCMt8ejczRQBhDlLRnG83emxRxmkL0WeBeWit1L6VaUEVIf58yuUSxGF7MPJ52b7Zr1rGDtZ52EOM2OIS6MZcnSbe-q3fFOSAclRieLuCVarEdVM7n6A14Qf4HMx3wK4sm6466ixlRTSXobU2Nzexsi-uEwczbIqWTK7Dw1SSAGvc_bRygK9dhM7l-CG-SczEKSGjt957yalRm-PBxU0OhAYDDk51wVv5c5QxS6QG0VBdDPB5xRrBeiv1QgbHepnZ1bbvG98VrZnNkcEEs0aBD6SeNIuuz80Ez2X0jibhw8OpnE7JypY26L4Vu95kSsOJs28MeauF8-GyOI4eYiXR50CCNGINpjUByJT-FG3ke3cg9XfqUU1r7lOpkNMKoG2ElpeIOnpTEcM1Llqz4vFwOH3GQsSXTdMgEnIkMyH_G0OmAf0JlDmKvxtkLQLFOminDnactmyG2K4p1UAEghhcFJXoQ=s300-no-tmp.jpg

I know its long and messy, but google has a photo library right inside it. It's an extra step, but if you add the extension, then you can put it in a link shortner.

Re: PHOTOBUCKET changes

i'm glad that the only things i ever uploaded on photobucket were a couple bug report screenshots years ago. but i feel bad for those of you who had a lot of images there.

deviantart can be a good place to upload your art and photos, but it doesn't look like it was meant for screenshots...

those with a facebook account can also message themselves with the images (search your own name on the chat bar and talk to yourself for expert advice). i used to do that before i left that site.

you need to click on view image (i don't remember how to) and go to that page that has only the image and nothing else (instead of the chat's slideshow, wich can't be viewed by anyone other than yourself)

i belive it should work with any social network site that allows you to send images on the chats and to message oneself while keeping the messages hosted on the site's server instead of the user's machine.

Re: PHOTOBUCKET changes

Has anyone noticed some of their photos from photobucket now reappearing/show up now? I know mine have on the message boards, I wonder if photobucket is now allowing 3rd party hosting again. I know they have changed their prices but the damange is already done for that company.
