Carnival Fashion Show Theme

Hello dollz!

February is the month of the carnival in the whole world!  Venice, Rio, and even OhMyDollzCity! Extraordinary costumes to dream of!

The theme for this weeks fashion show is: Carnivals around the World! To take part, create an original outfit inspired by the Carnivals of the World: Carnival of Venice, of Rio, the tradition of the giants of North, etc…!   Show originality to be elected Miss OhMyDollz of the Week!

You must use at least one item from each of the following stores:

You also need to have at least 8 items showing.

Don't forget that forbidden items will not be enforced this week.  To see why (and to have your say on the use of forbidden items), please see this post

Themes, required items and the minimum number of items are still being enforced.  Hiding required items or items to meet the minimum number will get you disqualified.

P.S.  I have no idea what they mean by "the tradition of the giants of North."  Does anyone know what they mean by this?

When searching this out on Bing, most of the pages brought up reference Giants, as in Nephiliam.  Also, Milan was mentioned.

It gets curiouser and curiouser...

I believe I have found out what "giants of the North" might be and since we are not supposed to put "outside" links here Willowskye, I'll send it to you in a PM.

But the picture shows large figures that I am assuming will be in a Mardi Gras parade or sorts.

edit note:  it is TOO early in the morning to spell correctly!!!!

Re: Carnival Fashion Show Theme

Thank you for the information, sierradane. :)

Now I know what "Giants of the North" refers to.

From what I read on the translated page, it sounds like certain regions of France and various other European countries treat these giant statues/dolls as real "people."  They use them in their carnivals and take them through "a day in the life" sort of thing.  They have the male and female giants marry, have children, etc.

Excerpt from a blog site by an American who now lives in France:

"Here in the North of France, carnival season is when the giants wake up. Each town in the North has its own giant who leads the carnival parade."

Translated excerpt from the info you sent me:

"In the folklore of the North of France and Belgium, the giant is a gigantic figure which represents a fictitious or real being."  "Created by a group of people who share common values, the giant is a major symbol of the collective identity. Carried by one or more people, it only moves, in couple, or family, at the time of her feastday. Indeed, each giant has his day out: the carrier gives him life, the fact then of dancing, of kissing a giantess, of greeting crowd…"  "Each giant has his history, the giant is born, is baptized, marries and has children..."

I found this rather interesting as I had no idea there was this kind of culture surrounding these giant figures.

Anyway, if anyone wants to find out a bit more about this interesting subject, I would recommend searching the 'net.

Thank you again, sierradane. :)
