[Fashion Show] New Theme: Hippie vs Yuppie!

Hi there young stylists!

From tomorrow at 10 AM (french time), take part in the new “Fashion Show” !

Here a new theme that will put through the wringer the voters!

You can choose to became an hippie girl: with a floral outfit.

Or, instead, choose to became a yuppie (golden boy or business woman, if you prefer) : with a chic outfit or suit.

For this Fashion show everybody has to decide, and at the end the podium will tell us if the doll are at most hippie or yuppie.

So here the new Fashon Show theme : “Hippie vs Yuppie !” !

For this theme that contemplates a battle oo styles the rules are simple :

You must create only ONE type of the 2 proposed option : Hippie OR Yuppie!

The Hippies :

Peace and love, this is the most famous expression on the pacifist movement dirung the 60's.
Another slogan, created during the Viet Nam war  is:  Make Love, not War, to protest against the violence.
Flower Power, it's another famous slogan created during the Summer of Love in 1967 in San Francisco, and it launched the style to wear frowers in the hairs.

The hippies were commonly called flower children. All these expressions sought to manifest a strong opposition to war and violence in general.

The Yuppies :

Yuppie is the acronym for Young Urban Professional.

Typical 1980's English term, it defines the junior and senior engineers, operating in environments of high finance and living the heart of the major Western cities.

Used to name this unique population in existence, "yuppie" is also a derogatory term (like "bobo"), referring to the ambitious young cynics people, stooges of capitalism in its most egalitarian version, obsessed by money and success, amoral, materialistic to the extreme.

So…are you an Hippie OR a Yuppie Girl ?

Here in New York State in the USA we use the word. More for the uptight people or the really business-like ones.

When I think of Yuppies, I think of "high class" rich spoiled brats that might have names like Miff or Muffy... maybe like :Elle Wood"  in "Legally Blonde".  Now my husband thinks that a Yuppie would be like a nerd or someone with all the latest gadgets, stock market, suits type of person.  (I'm probably getting Preppie mixed up with Yuppie)

Sierradane: you are more right than your husband, but he's right about the stock market/suits thing.  Yuppies were the preppy, loafer wearing, BMW/Volvo driving go-getters.  Actually would look more like the brunette fiancee in the first Legally Blonde movie.

Edit: adding that Yuppies would be "upwardly mobile" type people, sacrificing family life to further their careers and such.

Re: [Fashion Show] New Theme: Hippie vs Yuppie!

Over here in the UK, a yuppie is the type of person created under Thatcher. They work in business, have a money-grabbing me-me-me type attitude and talk on those massive 80s cell phones. And what mischiefmker said in her edit. :)

I love the idea of a vs fashion show as well, that's awesome.

Re: [Fashion Show] New Theme: Hippie vs Yuppie!

One of the looks of Preppies (of the 80'/90s) were they wore Izod shirts (aligator logo) with sweaters around their shoulders tied by sleeves in front, very into upward mobile social and country clubs and golf-look,  but NOT really all the Formal attire I'm seeing in the show, yes, they showed their wealth, but yuppie style is NOT formal style.  Formal is formal.  Isn't Yuppie like a preppie was, but with more techno-gadgets available today.  But with the description Feerik gave, I can see why people are thinking dressy dress formal, but I don't think it is technically right. My doll is kinda like that, and Silverstarshine is wearing the uniform from the Harry Potter quest, school yuppie.   But the goth, princess and fairy dress-ups I'm seeing is not either yup or hip for sure.
Sorry don't mean to step on toes.  I always enjoy everyone's creativity anyway.
