Sick Again...

So I know I made another post like this, but I'm soo tired of getting sick once a month! Around May 18-20 week I got a horrible three day cold, and started to use remedies to help (vicks/orange juice/mint tea/cough drops). I'm sick again and it's not even been a month yet, so you can probably tell I'm a little mad about this, and a little worried.
I do take multivitamins (chewables since I have this weird fear of not swallowing pills), and when I'm able to, I always try to eat fruits/veggies. I'm not even in public school anymore, plus since it's summer I'm outside way more now.
Every time I get sick it knocks me out HARD. The colds 95% of the time always start with a bad sore throat. This summer especially I can not get sick again because I might be babysitting kids across the road every day for two hours.

I need help! I've looked online for what might be the issue and all I get is "See a specialist" or the "Your immune system is depressed"

Please help, I'm sick and tired of being sick!

Your immune system is depressed? Oh gosh. That's sorta funny..

Maybe you have something around that gives you allergies?

Re: Sick Again...

Malu is right, there could be something in your environment that is causing you to become ill. In a situation like that, I'd stick near a humidifier and try to avoid certain foods so I don't upset my stomach. I wouldn't say that you should be in a bubble, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

From my past experiences, sleeping with my mouth open with the cold air gives me a runny nose and a sore throat. Also walking around barefoot too much can, in some cases, cause illness if you're not watching where you are walking. Also, if you were to go to a different place with, say, a different climate or temperature or elevation it can screw with your immune system as well. This can also count for the changing seasons.

However, it is a possibility that you might have a weaker immune system than others. Some people get sick more often, it's all a bunch of genetic mumbo-jumbo that makes up who we are. If worst comes to worst, you may have to see your doctor, as it could mean something more serious.

I hope I was of help!

Re: Sick Again...

I actually once heard that if you work with animals on a daily basis that causes your immune system to weaken. Does anyone know if this is true?

Malu might be right...... Have you ever been checked for allergies? You could be allergic to Dust, molds, animals etc.... the list can go on and on.

And some of the things can make you have cold like symptoms.

Re: Sick Again...

What I do now is, when I get sick, I drink Chlorpheniramine (Piriton simply - but don't you just love typing in big words? :D) syrup. I think your local Pharmacist should have it. And it's so good!! I want to get sick for the sole purpose of drinking this. That and not going to school.. :D

A tablespoon or so is enough (Or three small spoons) every five hours + if you have fever or a headache take a Panadol- or whatever you use for headaches and fevers - and you should be good in a day or so.

But I have to warn you, Piriton, - it makes you sleepy and a bit weak. But it's also in a way an advantage cause sleep helps. A lot. I normally sleep the whole day and when I wake up, I drink the Piriton again and after a while, I'm asleep again.

Balms/vapor rub also help. So help any herbal balms you have and apply onto your throat, back, feet and chest. I also put a tiny bit on the outer part of my nostrils and sniff it - it makes all the mucus and whatnot ooze out.

If your nose blockage is unbearable then you can saline drops. Again, the should in your pharmacy or something. Just lie back and put a few drops into your nose and wait for a few seconds (20-60). I don't really to this - only if the balms don't work - cause I find it annoying and unpleasant.

Eating spicy and liquid-y stuff is great. Drink loads of water too - otherwise you'll risk fever. And spicy stuff makes your nose all runny. Soup is awesome. Just add a lot of pepper to it. Warm stuff is the key too.

And blow your nose gently - otherwise you might get an earache.

Coughs? Actified (medicine) is awesome. Tastes like the worst thing on the entire planet but it awesome for coughs. My mom makes me drink Honey mixed with Lime when I have coughs. And Balms/Vapor Rubs help too!

Keep a lot of tissues nearby. And my conclusion is that Balms are awesome.

Re: Sick Again...

Saline drops are supposed to be good to use in general, even if you're not sick.  You can usually stand upright and spray the solution in your nose, or lie down and put drops in instead, like malu suggested.

Good hand-washing is always recommended to prevent getting sick and I would add to avoid putting your hands near your mouth, nose, and eyes, unless you just washed them.  You don't need to become a germaphobe, but just beware that what you just touched might have germs on it and then you touch part of your face and can easily contract a cold virus just like that.
