I'm in a bit of a pickle, here...

As most of you know, I'm aiming to work in the anime industry. Well, I've decided the bet way to go about this is by being an audio and sound technician. But here's the catch: I can choose to study in Australia, or study abroad in Texas.

So here are the two pathways I have:
Australia
I'm with my family, friends, I don't have to convert currency, apply for visa/citizenship, etc. I can get a job at the ABC, build up my skills, and then transfer later to America. The biggest flaw is that the bachelor I'm going to study is only Australian recognized, and my goal is to work at Funimation. (Time frame to achieve goal: about 6 years)

Texas
I'm basically at Funimation's door step, my studies are US recognized, I don't have to worry about moving there later and my life will be awesome. Negatives are I'm going halfway across the globe by myself.

I just... Need to make sense of this all now, as I finish high school in 4-6 months. Anyway, if you were in my situation, what path would you consider the best option? I just need to hear some rational opinions about this.

Re: I'm in a bit of a pickle, here...

Well, I honestly would ask my parents for their opinion and then make a decision
So this is what I'd do:

Go to TX and study there. This way you have a better chance at getting into Funimation. If a degree is only for that particular country, I don't think it's worth it unless the company you want to work for is located in the area you live in.

I would say try to, if you could get an international degree, it's better. And, also, most US universities, like mine, hold big job fairs which would get you more recognized faster. If you have any questions about the US college system, just tell me ;) I'll help :D

Re: I'm in a bit of a pickle, here...

I agree with darkelfqueen, if you can get a degree that will be accepted in both countries that would be best..  You don't want to come here, get a degree and then decide you want to go back to Australia, and then your education isn't accepted.

If you can, I would say find a college here in texas.  Take a semester of classes, and see if you actually like living here.  Funimation is in the Dallas area, so there are quite a few schools here.

Major universities in the area:
(UNT) University of North Texas: has several location in the area
(UT) University of Texas: has several location in the area
(SMU) Southern Methodist University: its going to be pretty expensive though since its private.

There are of course, lots of smaller ones in the area, some may offer a more specific program in what you are wanting to do.. but usually the major universities are considered to be better or maybe just more "prestigious".

Re: I'm in a bit of a pickle, here...

I'm glad you're all onboard with the overseas idea. It's not seeming so far fetched now.

The beauty is, you don't need to be a qualified to get a job here. My brother is an audio tech (he never did any schooling), but he specializes in productions and stage shows. So really, if I decided to come back, I can work for him.

Dark, I want to know everything about the schooling system, I actually have no clue on that matter. I base my whole knowledge on movies that I've seen, and lets be honest, that's not the smartest thing.

( Don't deny it, though. You all just want me to move closer to you guys. ;) )

Okie dokie! I'll get on it. I'll try to get some info about the US college system in general, about colleges in Texas, tuition...what some people do...boarding...and the F1 Visa which you're going to need.

I think you would do fine living in texas.  Most of us texans like australians!  We tend to be really fascinated with your accents!!  :P

I live in Dallas, so if ya have any questions about the area I can prob. help ya with that.

Re: I'm in a bit of a pickle, here...

Thanks you two. I'm starting to get really stressed about everything, now.

I'm sorry to disappoint, but I don't have an accent, or the stereotypical accent (But I could be wrong... You never know.)

The only email I got from you, Dark is the one regarding your email.
