"Have I told you about professor Foley? He's a friend of our family who's inventing lots of unbelievable things.
I'm completely absorbed by my quest for a cool outfit for the french national holiday when suddenly he comes around and asks me if I didn't want an authentic dress of the french revolution in 1789. He says he built a time machine and I could meet the queen Marie-Antoinette personally! I'm not sure if I can believe this but I'm ready to give it a try...
Unbelievable, it really worked! But there's a small mistake. I landed in London of 1880.
While Foley reprograms the machine, I have to stay discreet and find an outfit of the victorian era as fast as possible!"
For this theme, be original and create an authentic outfit of the victorian era in London!
Participate in the new theme "Victorian fashion" by registering your Doll for the Fashion Show from July 14th at 10AM CET until July 20th at 10AM CET, so take your time to prepare your creation!
• To register for this Fashion Show you must follow the following requirements
- Use at least 1 item from the Byzantine store
- Use at least 1 item from the Cindydollz store
• Atmosphere requirements:
- An outfit from the victorian era of London in the years 1870/1890
- Gloves and a hat
- A bun for women
• Prohibited:
- Crinolines
- Anachronistic and fantasy items (eg: wings, magicl effects, steampunk outfits, neon colors, ...)
- A second character (human and animal)
- No decorations except neutral backgrounds to hide the Doll
- The presents to offer friends and those of the Gazette
- Clothed quest mannequins and ready-made outfits*
ATTENTION: Ready-made means fully dressed quest characters and non-customised outfits. Customise your Doll to at least 50%.
ADVICE:
The goal is to create an outfit of the victorian era of 1870/1890.
At this time, the crinoline disappeared and skirts projected out exclusively behind the woman. The waists got really thin thanks to the corsets behind. Outfits have large "gigot" sleeves for women and frocks for men. It's fairly unimaginable to leave the house without gloves, a hat and a parasol!

So exciting
Time to flex out my historic knowledge

I'm just wondering how a person can get a bun hairstyle and a hat to go togther... the hat will cover up the bun hairstyle.
I actually entered this contest - first time since the last fiasco I experienced with fashion shows. Here's hoping it goes smoother than the previous shows I've observed/participated in!
(and Sierra, my entry is wearing a bun updo with a hat over it - you can't see the bun, but I guess they just mean your doll's hair needs to be up and not flowing down?)
That's what I guessed. I did a bun with a little loose end so that you can see it around the hat.
This is the first one I've entered in over a year.
Does anyone know where the Byzantine store is O.o'!! That store isn't open in my shop - unless if it is combined with another store???
Thanks for the help in advance :)!!!
Hi, diamondz07 - Byzantine's creations have been combined with several others' in the shop called "Stylist Center". When you hover your mouse over the thumbnails of the items available for purchase in this shop, a pop-up over your mouse will tell you who designed the piece - you just need to make sure you buy one piece labelled "Byzantine" for the contest :)
(all of the items currently showing on the home page for the Stylist Center (newest items) are by Byzantine!)

Thank you soo much!! <3
Kudos to everyone who's followed the rules for this show - there are some really exciting entries in this week's contest! I'm so impressed with so many of the outfits - they are so creative!
However (why must there always be this part?! Le sigh), there are MANY outfits that do not comply with the rules. I keep seeing pre-fab outfits, some with a minor touch here or there to add an accessory, but still non-original. Non-umbrella outfits. Non-buns. Touches of steampunk. Neon.
Please, mods, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzze, can you remove offending entries? This is the first time I've allowed myself to become excited about a show since I gave up on them like a year ago out of frustration. I don't care much if my own outfit does well or not, but it does chafe me to see so many who disregard the rules, when so many of us work hard to comply with them. :(

I am in complete agreement. I was going through voting this morning and I seen quite a few with a simple dress that was already made. How is that creative? And the Back doll ones irk me. I though this was suppose to be our doll, not one of the models?
I don't normally mind if there's like one or two backdollz ones. But this is ridiculous 0.0 Great job for creativity though.
I thought this one dress that green was customized. And I was like hey, that looks cool. Turns out...none of it is >.>
Hm, is an umbrella compulsory? I know I added one so it doesn't affect me at all- however I read that this is ''advice'' only above; as far as I am aware, not all Victorian outfits that women wore back in the days had to an umbrella with it ^^
Just thinking that MANY entries would be disregarded if moderators were to act and remove them (leaving only a couple of entries within the contest) so people would just keep seeing the same dolls pop up in the voting phrase..
But yep, other than that, I agree that dolls who didn't the basic rules stated above should be disqualified.
I will take a quick look now, disqualifed quite a few before the show started. It takes forever, since it shows 3 people, then hit refresh & end up seeing the same person over & over (its such a pain!) and end up missing quite a few dolls in the process..
I let some of the hairstyles slide before since the photo used as an example had longer curls, as long as it was up..
And Littlemandy is correct, an umbrella isn't required.

From watching various movies or TV series set in that time period, some of the ladies would carry an umbrella to shield their delicate skin from the sun. Of course, if they were caught in a 'toad strangler' of a downpour, their lacy accent wouldn't do a lick of good in protecting them from the rain.
Don't forget the crinoline skirts some of those balloonlike a hoop skirt way too much! And the last loft show had a lot of nonpirate rooms and 3rd place didn't have the required seabird! Its a tough job to catch them so we should be more careful when we enter. If someone makes a mistake they can request to be disqualified so they can reenter correctly

I've seen a lot of crinoline and Civil War hoop skirts. And one thing a Victorian dress should NOT be showing would be skin... they had high collars, they surely wouldn't be showing their cleavage like the doll in a black dress is.
This pictures below show them with a bustles on the back.

Ah yes. The bustles. I tried to show that on mine coming out the side but wasn't easy. You're correct on the cleavage. I am a big Victorian era fan. None was ever shown. If any was they were...um..you get the picture I guess.
To make a note: My hair does have a bun. You'll see some on the side though and that's the extra that hangs loose at the bottom of the bun. Not sure if that was okay.
Thanks for looking into it, Coco - we really appreciate it! I'm sure being a moderator can be largely a thankless, behind-the-scenes job, but please know that we love and appreciate you ladies for all that you do to make this game better and to help it run smoothly. Thank-you!
Well, from what I know about Victorian fashion, high collars are considered something of a base form for that era, but showing some neck and shoulders was ok, especially before 1880's.
