Step 1: In Ancient Egypt...
I am and I live on the banks of the Nile with my family. My father and my little brothers are fishers, while we take care of the house and sell what is left of the fishing to the market in Thebeerik. That is, when there is something left. We are not rich and we work hard.
Tonight I made a dream where a woman with a Pharaoh mask was dangerously standing on a rope, swinging in the void. I was very close to her, I could have bring her back to safety just by stretching my arm! But I woke up before taking a decision. I asked my mother what my dream could mean, because they are said to be sometimes messages from the Gods. She advised me to go to Thebeerik and bring offerings to the temple, where I will ask a priestess of Isis to give me an explanation.

Step 2: On the road to Thebeerik
Early in the morning I left for the city of Thebeerik. The road that follows the river isn't that hard, but better reach the city before the heat strikes. With a little bit of luck I will be home before night! And I also want to avoid encountering crocodiles, I hope I haven't offended Sobek lately. Earlier on I saw a red ibis though, may it bring me luck!
My mom gave me figs and dried fish for the trip, so I find a shady spot and enjoy a snack before setting off again.
Sometimes when I look upon the city of Thebeerik, where Frednathon the First built his mysterious palace, I find myself dreaming about another life that I imagine easier and more brilliant. But my life is rather simple, I enjoy it as it is and I am not demanding!

Step 3: The workshop
The city and its outskirts are bustling with activity! People go in and out constantly, carrying jars of water on their shoulders, bags of wheat on their back or pushing steers in front of them. Guards on horseback or on foot make sure everything goes smoothly at the entrance, which is flanked by stone statues of the Pharaohs.
I stop by a pottery workshop to watch the craftsmen work. Some of them beat the clay, while others make or bake the pieces of pottery and the bricks we use every day. I also spot a painter who decorates the finished jars. So much talent! They are so skilled, I could watch them work all day!

Step 4: The market at the harbor
I am finally at the docks market! This is the place where the ships sailing on the Nil unload their goods and where you can buy or sell all kind of things. There is food, animals, jewelry, clothing. My head is spinning! Usually I am stuck with my mother on a mat, forced to sell our fish, so I almost never have the market for myself.
I treat myself but above all, I don't forget to buy offerings for the temple: bread, dates, incense. A lot of things catch my eye, but I hope that what I have will be enough!

Step 5: Day and Night
As I walk by a school, I hear the voice of a scribe from one of the windows. He teaches the children the importance of Nout, the goddess of the sky. When she laughs, the thunder rumbles and when she cries, her tears rain down from the heavens. Stars wander her body and every evening she swallows the sun god Re before bringing him back into the world every morning. And every night, Re's cat fights the evil snake Apophis to prevent him from devouring the sun.
I really like this story, it reminds us why cats are so important in our lives. I could stay here and keep on listening but I have to go to the temple!

Step 6: The temple of Isis
I arrived at Isis' temple, the powerful goddess and sacred magician. I like the peaceful and muted atmosphere, even if the priestesses are the only ones allowed near the goddess, at the center of the temple. I finish my ritual washing and entrust my offerings to a helper from the temple. I then tell my dream to the priestess of Secrets.
She explains that my dream was the gods' way of advising me, a warning or even a prophecy. There is something I have to accomplish, a chance to take. The path of my life has reached a crossroads and I will have to chose a direction, from this choice depends a whole series of events.

Step 7A: Servant at the palace (left ending)
I offered my help and Isis smiled at me! I can't believe it, the palace is such a splendor! There are too many wonders to look at to stay focused on my work! I've been assigned to the apartments of the princess Sar-atshe-pti, the eldest daughter of Frednathon the First, and even if I'm just a humble servant, I am happy to be in her presence.
One of my comrades is handing her a tray of dates filled with honey when suddenly the princess chokes and raises her hands to her throat! Everyone is frozen in astonishment. When he was younger, one of my brother almost died from swallowing a grape. I remember what my mother did to save him so I drop my cloth and rush towards the princess.
Isis be blessed, the princess is saved! The Pharaoh Frednathon the First summoned me to thank me and offer my family a reward that will grant us freedom from want for the rest of our lives! What an amazing honor for a humble girl like me to be in the presence of his divine presence! I don't have the feeling to deserve all this, I only listened to my heart!

Step 7B: On the banks of the river Nile (right ending)
Me? Servant at the palace? No thanks! I have a life to live, no matter how simple it may be, and I don't want to meddle in the ones of the powerful. It is still early in the afternoon and on my way back, I bump into Ahmose, the elder son of the architect. We have been seeing each other for some time now and I hope that one day he will ask my father's blessing to marry me. Sitting on the rocks along the river Nile, we enjoy today's last rays of sunlight. I rest my head on his warm shoulder and close my eyes.
I dream about a terrible announcement: the princess Sar-atshe-pti died this afternoon and the Pharaoh decreed a month of mourning. Turned into a red bird, I escort the princess ka in her journey to afterlife, where - like everyone else - she will be subjected to the weighing of souls. Will the feather of Maat, goddess of order and law, be heavier than Sar-atshe-pti's heart? She better had a virtuous life otherwise Anubis will feed her eternal soul to Ammit...
