I discovered the life of cowboys and the Great Plains. Every morning, I saddle my horse to go round up the herds. The work is hard, but I make many friends there. One evening at a horse festival, I meet Katsi a young rider from a Native American reservation. We hit it off, and she invites me to come visit her community.

Step 6: Connected to the Wild

Horses hold a very special place in the culture. They often live in semi-freedom and are respected as true partners. The next morning, Katsi introduces me to her family and the community elders. They explain to me that, for them, horseback riding isn?t just a sport or a job, but also a way to stay connected to nature and tradition. We then set off on a long ride across the plains and hills. The pace is calm, almost silent, as if everyone were taking the time to listen to the wind and the horse?s footsteps. Katsi invites me to stay for a while and live with them, and I happily accept the chance to stay in this magical place.
