Re: [LookBook] The lover’s celebration !

I wish these players would stop designing for this game. The game is now updated mainly by players & the lookbook is old quest & store items put together. I'll understand if players creations are used occasionally but they're presenting what normal players have been doing for years so it's nothing special. We are the cause of the way we've been treated by Feerik, because we keep sugar coating their behaviour & being careful not to criticize when something is wrong. Why can't they come out with an announcement like the Bimbo game? .On the Bimbo game (even though they don't use flash), they announced last month they would stop updating regularly & they would be making further announcements in March, why can't this game do the same thing? Anyway they have very little hope of surviving because they've lost a lot of french players.

They actually did. It was posted on the French forums and someone posted it in Dollz Discussions as well somewhere.

Re: [LookBook] The lover’s celebration !

Not to mention how expensive these LookBooks are, they are double the price of an ordinary quest.
I prefer to keep my $$$ for replays to get more rooms with their extensions and themes and to get items I don't have yet.

Re: [LookBook] The lover’s celebration !

@ Darkelfqueen, I saw that announcement here & on the french forum but it was a vague reply & not direct like other game announcements. A lot of french players & 2 or 3 store designers have said they have lost motivation due to the state of the game & lack of response to questions asked. Feerik has already lost a lot of players, how will they get them back if they decide to revive the game?

Honestly, with these type of things, I'm just waiting until we actually start getting original content coming out once again without any players' designs and quest replays...

Re: [LookBook] The lover’s celebration !

I fear for the future of the game now. I do like the fact that we can revisit old quests, but every week??? No. I'd be spending around 2000+ OMD a month on quests if I did everything.

The lookbook is okay... I'm not a fan of usermade outfits as I've said before because they're often cluttered or simple enough that we can make it ourselves without spending so much...

This comment made me sad. I've been one of the players who has entered a few of my creations into these event because I simply want to help out a game that I like and is going through some tough times - just like how a friend would help out another friend who is going through a rough spot in their life. Crap happens. In the end, this is just a game that people use to get away from the real world for a few minutes in a long day. Your world shouldn't revolve around it. It's negative comments that I keep reading that make me just want to give up on this game, and I would think other players would feel the same way: They read about how much others are angry or sad that the game seems to be going nowhere fast, or even ones who say they wish the game would just die already instead of this 'slow death'. Steadily these players decide to leave, because what's the point in staying on when so many others think OMD is dead?

And that's the main question: What is the point of staying? Why do YOU play OMD?

I've been playing this game since a year after it came out, so I've been here for a long time. It was just a simple game with a few permanent flirts and a few shop updates every month. Special flirts came later, followed by quests that would happen I think every other month, which became every month - which became every other week! It was maddening! The game used to be fun because I could save up enough to buy some items in the stores as well as do a quest. Suddenly I couldn't do that anymore. I could barely save enough for a quest, especially if something caught my eye in a store. I know to many, who spent real money for $$, that wasn't an issue...but for me it was. I continued to play because, well, I really liked being able to decorate my rooms and experiment with different outfits; or make a new doll to represent a character that I like. Decorating my loft for the holidays is so much easier in-game than in real life :)  Although making an outfit takes longer in-game :D

Now with the game having less new content and only old quests, this is my chance to save enough and finally, finally, FINALLY get those items I've been wanting for years. Yes, years. Because I can still decorate my rooms and I can still experiment with new outfits. That's why I stay and continue playing OMD.

I do think that the Mods over on the French forums are a bit too strict, many players just want to vent their frustrations  and point some things out, but are quickly shut down. I also think that if players such as myself help with the LOOKBOOK, then the prices should not be as high as they are; that's the main reason why I don't do the LOOKBOOK: the prices are ridiculous. I think I see what could be one of my creations (the dark-skinned model in the third tier Summer Bal) but I can't tell and no one wants to post who the creators are, since there is so much hate about player creations at present, and having to spend 200-some dollars just to see if  the model is mine or not would be beyond silly. There are a few little creations that I think are really cute, but I really wish they would bring the prices down. The new Baroque outfit it really pretty, but 500 is a bit too much for me - I'd snatch it up if it was only 200 or 250. Or if one of my dolls had 1000 on them.

I'll be amazed if people actually read all this that I typed out.

Re: [LookBook] The lover’s celebration !

some of the items are realy cute, and the new room is realy tempting, but the fact that those items are user creations gives me that "why buy it if I can do it myself" feeling...

I know that feeling. When quests became too common I begun to stop buying items even for the fashion shows (if I could build a decent outfit with what I had, I'd join, if not, I'd pass to just avoid buying items) unless there was a sale of at least 50%.
the replays, user-made lookbooks and the packs I might or might not feel like buying allowed me to save for sales. and hey look: 70% off on everything in a given store for one day! I can buy a 35$$$ dress or more complex piece for only 11$$$ and with the other 24$$$ buy many more items!

it must be hard to convert a game that has over 169,000 items from flash to either HTML5 (wich is often unstable), WEBGL (wich not only hates 32-bit systems but often requies up-to-date stuff that I doubt the average OMD user is unlikely to pay atention to) or Java (wich some browsers like firefox have been rejecting and needs to be either constantly updated or deleted and then reinstalled later).
I'm usualy the kind of person who complains like the worst of pessimists, but I'm being patient here because adobe wants to terminate flashplayer plugin by the end of this year.
and as I mentioned above, finding something to replace it is not easy. the "easiest" solution, wich another site i visit adopted, is to create a steam-like platform that can run those games. like a browser that is specific to a given site. or a game client. or something like that...
the problem is: it seems to be an expensive solution that requires more support and maintenance than a simple browser game.
if a browser like opera or palemoon is crashing a lot, the game developers can just tell the users to try another browser. with a dedicated platform, the developers need to make sure that not only the game runs smoothly, but that the "browser" itself works as well...

Re: [LookBook] The lover’s celebration !

I personally don't care for what other people made, especially at those prices and nothing can make me spend my over 2k $$$ on that. I think they burned themselves out with the frequency of quests... I wish they kept it to events and every month thing so people could save up for those and enjoy other things as well. I too use the constant replays to finally do quests that I missed but stuff like this made me loose faith in OMD. Especially the loss of the event quests. I look forward to the halloween one every single year and... When there wasn't one I was about to quit... Actually I'm just waiting for my VIP to expire and will see from there if we see any progress or they abandoned dollz like they did ponies...  Also all n all it's a dressup game, if simple HTML forums can have dressup avatars without flash there are ways to keep that aspect to dollz. I just wish they didn't leave this impression that they packed up and left the game as a whole. Seeing the room does give me some hope, it means some one out there is still creating for dollz but will it last?

Re: [LookBook] The lover’s celebration !

I agree with everyone. I feel that by using so much player created content, that is their way of "free labor." Granted, I've not had anything I've created in anything to be bought... so I'm not fully sure IF the players get any DBs for any of their things bought. I love this game, but like someone said, we have to sugar coat things and not criticize them on anything. I'll probably be banned from the OMD US facebook page after some of my blunt comments which more than likely is what everyone would like to say.

Re: [LookBook] The lover’s celebration !

If it's really that difficult to convert the entire website into another format, maybe the team should look for outside help? They obviously need to keep a steady flow of income with the quests being every week and 1 lookbook per month, if it's that hard to multitask they need help from others to help the site stay alive or help get it to another platform before it's too late.
Another website I still go on ended their services years ago, but still kept the site up for it to slowly go out while running flash, but if Adobe is really getting rid of flash, it'll be gone and I don't want OMD to go down the same path of being abandoned and slowly fading out and then being unplayable. pleur
There has to be something that can be done. So many of us have invested in OMD for years, it shouldn't go to waste.

Re: [LookBook] The lover’s celebration !

@lady0filia - Well, I read it all, too! I've not been here near so long - and I'm a horrible, lazy player who only works and buys stuff in game, never decorate my rooms, etc pleur so I can't say my opinion is worth much (Though that chapter you think your design is in is one of 3 I'd consider getting, is your's just the doll figure, or the dress, or both?)

I'm concerned however with the mentality that "designing for the game, helps the game."

Because it doesn't. OMD and Feerik are -or used to be- professionally managed. Perhaps not well (ex. they should have added the if-else programming structure for quests years before they finally did. And the horrible translation errors!) As semi-professionals, they should be providing content and direction for the how OMD develops. And they are not doing that.

Where is the staff who designed the wonderful things we ooh! and aah! over? I do understand that life happens, but they should hire someone, even temporarily to fill that job.

Instead we, the players, are asked again and again for submissions. And that is practically all we see. We've replaced the designers! We've taken their job! And we aren't even being paid in-game, not really.

I've worded this whole thing badly - but I feel that talented and generous players like yourself, lady0filia, are being taken advantage of by the management.

~

Further, on the game dying front. I suspected this would happen when Feerik was attempting that name change shenanigens way back. Or was it before that - well, when Feerik announced their new CEO or equivalent was a guy who had managed part of Disney's online games previously. Disney! Only, I also played Pixie Hollow for a time - and that game a several others had been shut down in the previous year. Nice track record we were getting. . .

~

As for commenting on the OP . . .

That final outfit is gorgeous, I really, really, really want that. But - appeal of items aside, I am NOT  a fan of the color red, and I know it's thematic, but there is way to much here. And the two dresses in Haute Couture Flirt - both use that same jewel type item in the torso, one's just flipped, wouldn't it have been better to separate the two dresses?

~
~~
~

Finally - the idea keeps coming to mind that I want to save copies of the items I've collected in game for the inevitable shut down. Ethics and Legality aside (i.e. not either) - stupid! I don't do anything with what I have now, why would I do anything with them if I saved them and all the time it would take.

Just the doll. Someone on the French forum FINALLY posted the items in bigger format and I think the model may be my Sarahspells creation (they didn't say who created what.) Funny thing is, I didn't enter that into the Valentine event, but the Christmas one, so it surprised and confused me.

I do agree that it's not the best idea to always ask the players to create stuff for the game; but if the team that works on OMD is small and they can't, somehow, get help from more people, then I do believe I am helping in some way - because while they are spending all their work hours getting the game to work on something other than Flash, there is still interesting, if not new, content being put out for the game. However, there is so much hate towards these events now that the wiser thing to do is to STOP doing these player creation events; all it does is make players angrier and more likely to leave.
