I would like to see this implemented ^^
Rarity changed the titles for some of is as an April Fool's gift. We liked them and asked her not to leave it as is. She said he wanted to do it for everyone who posts on the forums, but it was an on a whim idea and she didnt have time to do it.

This would be nice for anyone who wants the plain old "Members" title changed.
I dont think a lot of spamming would ensue, but what if a time rule where you have to have been posting on the boards for a few months before getting one? That way only people who are consistently on will get the privilege of a unique title.

Actually that's how they're awarded on the French site, too. As part of the Gazette contests or certain clubs/contests run by mods/GM, they're one of the prizes.

That way only active players can get them.

Contests are always fun, and it'll be a way to get this board active again :3

Yuku boards have various titles that everyone have, depending on the number of posts you have or you can give them a custom title. Proboards can have custom titles as well.  I'm not sure what type of contests would be held to "win" a custom title, but with that... only the winner would receive the custom title?

Usually different titles for Winners and participants. That's how they're being done on the French board anyways. That's how they prove you're active, I guess, to get the titles. And that's how they add excitement as you can get new titles as time goes by.

So now we've had a couple mods who have posted positively toward this idea... when do you think it might happen?

Hmmmmm..... the crickets are overwhelming.

Maybe have a post somewhere to have people post what they want as a title, much like the Birthday thread.  Or maybe another active mod might be able to pitch in?

Despite my reservations, I am going to weigh in here with an "opposing" opinion.

Personally, I do not see the need for "custom titles" on the Forum.  Without creating a debate, I will acknowledge that some players have them... leading some players to desire a similar "privilege" (although I hesitate to call a one-time joke a privilege).

We currently have the ability to "customize" no less than three different areas of our Forum comments: avatar, signature, and profile info (the "From" text located beneath our avatar, among others).  To me, this seems to be more than enough personalization available... but I am not bothered by those very few random titles some have.

I personally think it is a good idea for there to be some clear "objective" designation for the various player "roles" displayed on the Forum.  It is less confusing to know, unequivocally, who is an Administrator, Moderator, or Member... it imparts an appropriate level of authority and confidence to posts, as a result.

If anyone can "title" themselves anything they want... that differentiation is lost, and anyone can potentially claim anything they want.

I will add a side note, which perhaps I am the only one who will remember this:  Waayyy back when (shortly after the "migration" to OMD), willowskye had organized a contest to "create" titles that would coincide with the number of posts contributed to the Forum (which, in an of itself, is another problem... since it would inevitably lead to even more superfluous comments).  These were to be specific designations associated with specific posting achievements... not personally requested customizations.  There were set levels where those titles would be awarded, much like our Trophy levels, for example:

50 posts = Commentator-in-Training
100 posts = Baby Blogger
500 posts = Discussion Diva
1000 posts = etc.

These are just some "off the top of my head" titles... but I hope it gets the idea across.  I had actually entered this contest (some of the threads from this time period where lost, including this one)... which may be why I remember it.  Perhaps this is an idea that could be considered again, given the current topic?  I'm sure willowskye could provide additional information about it, should this be an avenue moderators wanted to pursue... but whatever route they take, decisions and implementation regarding possible Forum titles should be given the time and thought our moderators need.

I will speak for myself when I say, I do try to treat all of you with respect and fairness.   The last thing I want to do is make someone feel like they do not matter.
