NaNoWriMo

So, I've decided to join NaNoWriMo, it's a challenge to writers everywhere to write a 50k word novel in 30 DAYS!! It's an annual thing, spanning from Nov 1 - 30.

Anybody heard of it/planning to join?

I actually followed several writer blogs last year who were doing it and am honestly thinking of doing it. Not for a novel, but for a fanfic. Might even divide the number of words into;

- Finishing my "The Case of the White Rose" fanfic since I've been getting a lot of demand from the readers to finish it up.
- Working on a new fanfic (a longer and better written one). I have several ideas and haven't settled on which one I'll be using.

What about you? What're you writing? Do you have a blog?

I've wanted to join this for yeeeeeeaaarrrrrs ever since I heard of it long ago in my Livejournal days, but I can never find a good enough idea to write about. I have a desire in my heart but absolutely no direction. Keep us updated on how it goes!

I think it's an amazing thing to do and would definitely give me the inspiration to release some of my thoughts but i just don't have the time...

Hmm, well I don't have one of those livejournal blog things, just my tumblr :)

I'm gonna write my first original concept novel.

It's about a boy who's family and home are destroyed by a group called "The Seekers" (bluh, gotta change that.) who supposedly hunt and kill kids & teenagers who're potentially dangerous to society ("superpowered people") he goes to the government for help and they take him to a lab where the Seeker attack survivors are taken and he meets this kid who's isolated from the rest. And yeah if I tell anything more than that all the plot twists would be destroyed >u<

I just started with literally no plot. I'm writing straight from my head at the moment. It's my first time doing the adult version and although I am quite nervous at least it's not as bad as the people doing 50kKillMeNow today. I WORSHIP those people. They should have gold statues made for them (if you didn't know, 50kKillMeNow is basically writing 50k in one day. That's right, ONE DAY.)

How much have you written so far?

Urgh, actually I just made up the plot today, I tried looking for plot stories in my old folders but couldn't find any haha... ((ohgoshthisisgonnakillmehelp))

It's actually not that bad going in with only a one paragraph plot. It gives you more room to be creative :) And think of it this way: at bare minimum you only have to write 1667 words each day.

It's my first year!! I came up with the plot last night and am quickly just trying to type out 2,000 words(or as close to that) by midnight tonight.
Here's sort of a synopsis for it. I'm just going along with it.

Bly Gellant is a young adult struggling to get her life back on track after a traumatizing incident resulting in her brother's sudden death a year ago. She forces herself to concentrate solely on graduating as a law student, sometimes disregarding sleep for weeks. When she finally does manage to get a good night's rest after a successful term, she experiences a series of bizarre dreams, and wakes up with scars on her neck and wrists. She disregards it as something she could have done to herself, but as the nights progress and the dreams get more detailed, she discovers that the recurring scars aren't always her own doing.

It's supposed to be a thriller/sci-fi sorta thing, and it's my first time writing that genre so yeah. I'm reeally feeling the pressure!

I'm just going with it, and REALLY trying to avoid editing. It's hard though. I have never written this much in so little time! How about yours? Did you manage to get it up to 2000?

Yeah, I'm on around 2,500 words right now. My method is slightly different: I write about 1,500 words for a chapter and then go back and bulk it up. It works pretty well. Did you manage to hit 2,000 last night?

Don't worry, it's still really early in the month :) That method really does work well for me because I find it easier to get the basics on paper first and then add in descriptions and backstories.

That's actually not a bad idea. I'm good with writing scenes, so first I'm just adding scenes here and there, and then trying to tie them all together. This method usually works for me, but it takes longer.

I really have no clue where my story is going. I'm just letting the characters decide at the moment. I've decided to dedicate December to editing. (and it's definitely going to need a whole month xD)
