Yes, you would either need a scanner or you can take a picture if you have a camera and upload it that way. But there might be other ways that I am unaware of.

There's a scanner (if that's what leafheart means)
Basically, you put the picture faced down (blank side should be facing you) and close the document cover. You simply press the "scan" button and you can choose options on how your image upload should be (size, color/no color, etc.)
It takes about 5 seconds for mine to upload to my computer, but it varies on what model you're using.
This is only if you have a scanner/printer (and you don't need ink). Or you can do what fairykisses has stated, take a picture. Just get the cable and hook it up to your computer and it should transfer.
I personally like the scanner better, because it's cleaner and you have more options to play around with your image.
If you're using the scanner, you should use a 300 DPI minimum (for higher quality images)

It might not be clear but if you don't have a scanner it is basically your only other option.
